    INTRODUCING THE COORDINATE SYSTEM TO KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN: A DEVELOPMENTAL APPROACH

    The coordinate system is a fundamental tool for many daily activities, yet it is usually taught to children in middle school. Research suggests that children should be exposed to the coordinate system at a younger age, using methods appropriate to their developmental level. This paper presents a set of instructional activities designed to teach kindergarten children the basic concepts and principles of the coordinate system. The activities were implemented in two early childhood institutions in Istanbul, Türkiye. Arranged in a developmental progression from simple to complex and from concrete to abstract, they align with the children's developmental levels. We discussed what we learned from our implementations of the activities. Detailed suggestions are presented for teachers introducing young children to the coordinate system.  Article visualizations

    06.03.2018 tarihli ve 30352 sayılı Resmi Gazetede yayımlanan “Yükseköğretim Kanunu İle Bazı Kanun Ve Kanun Hükmünde Kararnamelerde Değişiklik Yapılması Hakkında Kanun” ile 18.06.2018 tarihli “Lisansüstü Tezlerin Elektronik Ortamda Toplanması, Düzenlenmesi ve Erişime Açılmasına İlişkin Yönerge” gereğince tam metin erişime açılmıştır.Bu çalışmada, hem katkı maddesi hem de bitki büyüme düzenleyici olarak seçilen farklı konsantrasyonlardaki potasyum humat, bor humat ve demir humat'ın kolzanın fizyolojik özellikleri, sürgün rejenerasyonu ve antioksidant enzim aktiviteleri üzerine etkisi araştırılmıştır. Steril edilen tohumlar % 3 (w/v) sükroz ve % 0.7 (w/v) agar ile her biri 1 ppm, 3 ppm, 5 ppm and 7 ppm konsantrasyonlarında olan potasyum humat, bor humat ve demir humat içeren Murashige and Skoog temel besiyerinde kültüre alınmıştır. Fizyolojik özellikler ve antioksidant enzim aktiviteleri bir haftalık bitkicikler üzerinde gözlenmiştir. 3-4 haftalık bitkiciklerden alınan gövde eksplantları 1 mgl-1 6-benzylaminopurine ve 0,2 mgl-1 naphthaleneacetic acid içeren besiyerinde kültüre alınmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçları incelendiğinde, bütün humik madde formlarının kolzanın fizyolojik özellikleri üzerinde olumlu etkisi olduğu, antioksidant enzim aktivitesi üzerinde negatif etkisi olduğu ve sürgün rejenerasyonuna hiç bir etkisi olmadığı görülmüştür.It was investigated the effects of various concentrations of potassium humate, boron humate and iron humate which was selected the additives to basal medium and phytohormones on physiological characteristics, antioxidant enzymatic activities and shoot regeneration rapeseed in vitro. Sterilized seeds were cultured on Murashige and Skoog Basal Medium with 3% (w/v) sucrose and 0.7% (w/v) agar containing each of the individual 1 ppm, 3 ppm, 5 ppm and 7 ppm potassium humate, boron humate and iron humate. Physiological characteristics and antioxidant enzymatic activities were observed from one week old seedlings obtained from the seeds. For observing shoot regeneration capacity, stem segments 3-4 mm in length were excised from 3-4 week old seedlings obtained from the seeds. Stem explants were cultured on Murashige and Skoog Basal Medium with 1 mgl-1 6-benzylaminopurine and 0,2 mgl-1 1-naphthaleneacetic acid. As a results, it was expressed that all the humate forms had positive effects on physiological parameters, but there were no effect on shoot regeneration. It was observed negative correlation between antioxidant enzymatic activities and increasing doses of all the humate forms

    The purpose of this qualitative case study was to examine what prospective mathematics teachers noticed with respect to the student roles underlined in the elementary mathematics program when video-case based pedagogy was employed in teacher education. The theoretical framework employed in this study was Learning to Notice framework developed by van Es and Sherin (2002). The data was collected through reflection papers and interviews from 15 senior prospective teachers enrolled at a large state university. The findings indicated that prospective teachers could notice several issues related to student roles underlined in the elementary mathematics program when they were provided with a learning environment to analyze real mathematics classrooms.Bu nitel çalışmanın amacı, öğretmen eğitiminde video örnek olay kullanımı neticesinde, matematik öğretmen adaylarının ilköğretim matematik programında vurgulanan öğrenci rolleri üzerine fark ettikleri noktaları incelemektir. Çalışmada teorik çerçeve olarak van Es ve Sherin (2002) tarafından geliştirilmiş olan Fark Etme Teorisi’nden yararlanılmıştır. Veriler, büyük bir devlet üniversitesinde öğrenim görmekte olan 15 son sınıf matematik öğretmen adayından yazılı yansıtıcı görüşler ve mülakatlar neticesinde toplanmıştır. Bulgular, öğretmen adaylarının gerçek matematik sınıf ortamlarını analiz etme şansı yakaladıklarında, ilköğretim matematik programında vurgulanan öğrenci rollerine yönelik çeşitli noktaları fark edebildiklerini göstermiştir

    Öğrencilerin Ölçme Alanında Akıl Yürütme Becerilerine İlişkin Bir Çalışma: Silindir Örneği

    The purpose of this study was to investigate 8th grade students’ reasoning skills on measurement. Specifically, this study aimed to find students’ reasoning skills on the case of surface area and volume of a cylinder. The data were collected from 271 8th grade elementary school students enrolled in three public and two private schools in Ankara at the end of 2008 spring semester. In order to investigate the elementary students’ reasoning skills regarding the area and volume of a cylinder, the Cylinder Exploration Task (CET, Merseth, 2003) was administered as the measuring instrument. The results revealed that 8th grade students had difficulty in solving the problems demanding the conceptual understanding on reasoning and measuring the surface area and volume of cylinder. Discussion of findings and recommendations for future research studies were provided.Bu çalışmanın amacı 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin ölçme alanındaki akıl yürütme becerilerini, daha spesifik olarak belirtmek gerekirse, öğrencilerin silindirin yüzey alan ve hacimine yönelik akıl yürütme becerilerini incelemektir. Veriler 2008 bahar dönemi sonunda Ankara’daki üç devlet okulu ve iki özel okulda öğrenim görmekte olan toplam 271 öğrenciden elde edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin silindirin alan ve hacmine yönelik akıl yürütme becerilerini tespit etmek amacıyla Silindir İnceleme Envanteri (CET, Merseth, 2003) ölçme aracı olarak kullanılmıştır. Bulgular, 8. sınıf öğrencilerinin kavramsal anlama gerektiren geometri problemlerini çözerken zorluk yaşadıklarını göstermiştir. Bulgular yorumlanmış ve ileriki çalışmalar için öneriler sunulmuştur

    Improving the Surface Quality and Mechanical Properties of Selective Laser Sintered PA2200 Components by the Vibratory Surface Finishing Process

    This paper attempts to improve the physical and mechanical properties of selective laser sintered polyamide PA2200 components through a vibratory surface finishing process by inducing severe plastic deformation at the outer surface layers. The industrial target of additive manufacturing components is to obtain structures having surface roughness, hardness, and other mechanical properties equivalent to or better than those produced conventionally. Compared to the as-built SLS PA2200 samples, vibratory surface finishing treated specimens exhibited a smooth surface microstructure and more favorable roughness, hardness, and tensile strength. Also, the duration of the vibratory surface finishing process showed a further improvement in the surface roughness and hardness of the SLS samples. Compared to the asbuilt state, the roughness and hardness of the surface-treated samples improved by almost 90% and 15%, respectively. Consequently, microstructural analysis indicates that lower surface roughness and enhanced surface hardness is a crucial factor in influencing the overall tensile strength of SLS-PA2200 components. We consider that the combination of VSF and SLS processes can successfully handle a wide range of potential applications. This study also highlights the efficiency and applicability of the vibratory surface finishing process to other additive manufacturing processes and materials

    Multifunctional 3D printing of heterogeneous hydrogel structures

    Multimaterial additive manufacturing or three-dimensional (3D) printing of hydrogel structures provides the opportunity to engineer geometrically dependent functionalities. However, current fabrication methods are mostly limited to one type of material or only provide one type of functionality. In this paper, we report a novel method of multimaterial deposition of hydrogel structures based on an aspiration-on-demand protocol, in which the constitutive multimaterial segments of extruded filaments were first assembled in liquid state by sequential aspiration of inks into a glass capillary, followed by in situ gel formation. We printed different patterned objects with varying chemical, electrical, mechanical, and biological properties by tuning process and material related parameters, to demonstrate the abilities of this method in producing heterogeneous and multi-functional hydrogel structures. Our results show the potential of proposed method in producing heterogeneous objects with spatially controlled functionalities while preserving structural integrity at the switching interface between different segments. We anticipate that this method would introduce new opportunities in multimaterial additive manufacturing of hydrogels for diverse applications such as biosensors, flexible electronics, tissue engineering and organ printing
